6 Tips to Recover Faster After Wisdom Teeth Removal

Going for wisdom teeth removal doesn’t have to be troublesome until you make it. Simply follow the aftercare instructions to recover faster and have a painless experience. 

1. Bite down gently on a gauze pad

One of the most urgent and common things you need to ensure is to stop the bleeding. To do so, gently bite down on a gauze pad until the bleeding stops. Placing the gauze speeds up the process of blood clot formation, and it is essential for a speedy recovery. The blood clot protects the surgery site from exposure to bacteria and saves it from infection. 

Ensure to place the gauze gently to minimize the risk of hurting the wound. Put the gauze between your teeth for a minimum of 5 minutes or until there’s no more bleeding. 

2. Place the ice pack

One of the easiest things to find relief from wisdom tooth extraction pain is by placing an ice pack on the cheeks and jaw outside the surgery site. 

Take a cold compress or ice pack and place it for 10-15 minutes. Next, remove the ice pack and wait for 15 minutes before repeating the procedure. Do it a maximum number of times for at least 2-3 days following the tooth removal. 

3. Take the medication prescribed by your dentist

Subjecting to how much pain you can tolerate, pain relievers like ibuprofen can help you manage the pain and discomfort. If over-the-counter pain relievers are not working for you, follow the prescription given by your dentist. 

 Your dentist may also prescribe you antibiotics to avoid infections. However, one thing to keep in mind even if your inflammation goes down, complete the stated treatment. If you halt the treatment early, your bacteria can regrow. 

4. Make sure your mouth stays clean

Another important thing is keeping your mouth clean. Brush your teeth after the removal of your wisdom tooth, but be very gentle. Being careful will save your blood clot from deterioration. 

After one day has passed, you can rinse your mouth with salty warm water. This will keep your mouth safe from bacteria. Do this at least 5 times. 

5. Eat only soft foods

After your wisdom tooth extraction, taking the right diet is very important. Food items full of nutrients will minimize inflammation and reduce complications. Ultimately this will lead you to a speedy recovery. 

For the first few days, only go on with soft and easy-to-chew foods. The food items good for you include smoothies, eggs, soups, boiled veggies. 

6. Rest as Much as You Can

You can come back to your normal activities but ensure you are taking proper rest. This way, your body will recover faster from the surgery. Try to sleep for at least 7 to 9 hours. 

Good sleep after wisdom tooth removal will minimize swelling and keep you out of pain. 

This is because, during sleep, your heart is working less, which lowers blood pressure. The reduction in blood pressure puts less stress on the blood vessels.
